This stew takes a little while to prepare but it is well worth it when you taste all of the flavor that it holds.

Ingredients

  • 2 bags of sauerkraut
  • 1 lb beef stew meat chunks
  • 2 cans whole tomato
  • 4 bay leaf
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 4 potatoes
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire's sauce
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 small onion
  • Water

Method

Brown beef in garlic and onion, set aside. Boil potatoes until done, drain, set aside. Put 2 cans whole tomato, 1 can tomato sauce, 2 bags of sauerkraut (juice to be drained out and discarded), browned beef (without the grease), few drops of Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon of pepper, 4 bay leaves, cooked potatoes and enough water to cover it all (if needed) into crock pot (or you can cook it on the stove in a soup pot) for about six hours. Cook until beef is tender enough and falling apart, and all water is dissolved. Should be consistency of thick stew, not soup.

Notes: Try with buttered rye bread.

Number of Servings: 8
