Cheesy Sloppy Joes

A sloppy joe mixture with a chili twist is made with ground beef, onion, chili powder, tomato paste and tomato sauce. That mixture, and a slice of American cheese, is sandwiched between two pieces of refrigerated biscuit dough that's rolled thin, then baked.

Ingredients:

  • 1-1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 2 tsp. chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic salt
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 1 6-oz. can tomato paste
  • 1 8 oz. tomato sauce
  • 1 can flaky buttermilk biscuits (10)
  • 5 slices American cheese

Method

Brown ground beef with the onion. Drain. Add remaining ingredients except cheese and biscuits. Simmer about 10 minutes. Roll each biscuit out on floured surface until about 6-inches in diameter. Place a heaping spoonful of beef mixture in center of rolled biscuit, top with slice of cheese and then place another rolled bicuit on top. Moisten edges and crimp with fork. Bake at 325 degrees till biscuits are golden brown.

Notes: Great football party dish. And kids love it, too.
