The best way to make sauce is simmered to allow all the flavors incorporate. This sauce, with beef, peppers, tomatoes, and herbs, simmers in a crock pot for many hours.

Ingredients

  • 2-tablespoons shortening
  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1-cup chopped onion
  • 1-cup chopped green pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic (crushed)
  • 1-cup chopped mushrooms (optional)
  • 2 (28-ounce) cans tomatoes
  • 1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste
  • 2-teaspoons salt
  • 3-teaspoons oregano
  • 1/2-teaspoon rosemary
  • 1/4-teaspoon thyme
