Grandma's Beef and Barley Soup


Grandma's recipe should not be missed out on. This hearty meal will cure anyone's hunger during the winter.



Ingredients:

  • 1-2 lbs chuck steak (cubed)
  • 4 medium potatoes
  • 1 medium onion
  • 4-5 carrots
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 package dry beef gravy
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 cup beef stock
  • 2-3 cups water
  • 1/4 cup barley
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • Flour

Method

Heat oil in stockpot, coat beef cubes in flour and brown. Add water, beef stock, Worcestershire, ketchup and gravy mix. Add cubed potatoes, sliced carrots and diced onions. Simmer for 1 hour, add dry barley, and cook for 1 hour.

Number of servings: 4-6 large servings
