Green Chili Burgers with Zesty Napa Slaw

These burgers are made with a homemade slaw that has a true zest, pepper Jack cheese, and green chili sauce for an extra zip.

Ingredients
  • Burger ingredients:
  • 2 pounds ground chuck, 80 percent lean
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 Kaiser buns
  • 8 slices jalapeno pepper Jack cheese
  • 1/2 cup purchased green chili sauce
  • Slaw:
  • 3 cups fresh Napa cabbage, finely shredded
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 3 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
 
Method

Shape meat into 4 round patties and season both sides of each burger with 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Grill burgers for 10 to 15 minutes or until the meat is no longer pink, turning once. When burgers are almost done, place 2 pieces of cheese on burgers and set the Kaiser buns, flat side down on grill until golden brown Meanwhile, shred cabbage and place in a large bowl. In a small mixing bowl, whisk together lime juice, salt, sugar and Tabasco sauce. Pour dressing over shredded cabbage and toss until well coated. Spoon slaw on 4 burger buns and place burgers on. Top with a few tablespoons of green chile sauce, close sandwich and serve.
