This flavorful ground beef, tomato and onion mixture is seasoned with garam masala, ginger, garlic, cumin, coriander, and cayenne red pepper, and gets its yellow color from turmeric.
 

Ingredients

  • 3 large onions, sliced
  • 2 tbsp. Cooking oil
  • 2 t. chopped fresh ginger
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1 t. salt
  • 1 lb. hamburger
  • 1 t. garam masala
  • 1 t. tumeric
  • 1 t. cumin
  • 1 t. ground coriander
  • 1/8 t. ground red pepper
  • 3 medium tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 T. unflavored yogurt
  • 1/4 cup water

Method

Saute about 1 cup of the sliced onions in oil; remove with slotted spoon and set aside. Add remaining sliced onions, the ginger, garlic, and salt to the oil; cook till soft. Crumble and add hamburger; cook until pink is gone. Drain fat. Stir garam masala, tumeric, cumin, coriander, red pepper, tomatoes, yogurt and water into meat mixture. Stirring constantly, bring to boil, then reduce heat to low, cover tightly and simmer 10 minutes. Serve topped with the reserved fried onions.
