Mexican Swiss Steak

Round steak is cut into pieces and slow-cooked in the crock pot with onion, salsa, catsup, garlic powder, cumin and Tabasco.
 

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb boneless round steak
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 large yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup chunky medium salsa
  • 1/4 cup catsup
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp cumin powder
  • Several drops of tabasco sauce

Method

Cut steak into 6 pieces. Salt, pepper and coat with flour. In skillet heat 1 tbsp oil on medium heat; brown meat. Set aside. Fry onions in rest of oil until golden brown. Place meat and onions in crock pot. Stir together the rest of the ingredients. Pour over meat. Cover and cook on low heat setting about 6 hours, or on High about 3 hours, or until steak is tender.

 

Notes: Serve with yellow rice and sour cream, with a green salad on the side.
