Rapid Sauerbraten Flank Steak

An easy twist on a traditional German dish--grilled flank steak served with a sweet and savory sauce.
Ingredients
- 1-1/2 cups beef broth, canned or homemade
- 6 tablespoons packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 1/2 cup gingersnap crumbs (about 8 cookies)
- 1 (1-1/2 pound) flank steak
- Salt and pepper to taste

Method
In a saucepan over medium heat, bring broth to a boil. Stir in brown sugar, raisins, lemon juice and gingersnap crumbs. Cook, stirring constantly, until gingersnaps disolve. Set sauce aside. Salt and pepper steak, and grill or broil until it reaches desired temperature (i.e. rare, medium, well-done). Serve steak with warm sauce.
Notes: Suggested side dishes: mashed potatoes and steamed frozen French-cut green beans or baby green peas.
