RED GRAVY STEAK

Beef cube steaks are floured and browned, then baked with green pepper and onion. Tomato sauce poured over all makes the red gravy.
 

Ingredients

  • 8 beef cube steaks
  • flour
  • seasoned salt
  • pepper
  • 1 small green pepper, diced
  • 1/2 small onion, diced
  • 2 small cans of tomato soup (or one 15 oz. can)
  • a little vegetable oil for browning
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • non-stick cooking spray

Method

Rinse cube steak in water. Dip cube steaks in flour that you have seasoned with the salt and pepper. Heat oil in skillet and add cube steaks, brown both sides. Spray a baking dish lightly with cooking spray. Add the browned cube steaks. Put the green pepper and onions on the top of the steaks, then pour the tomato sauce and 1/2 cup of water over all. Cover tightly with foil and bake at 350 for 2 1/2 hours.

 

Notes: I usually serve this with mashed potatoes and marinated vegetables. My family loves the red gravy the tomato sauce makes while baking along with the floured steaks.
