Ring Bologna Bake

A traditional Finnish dish, bologna stuffed with cheese that is baked until the cheese is browned and bubbly.
 

Ingredients

  • 1 ring bologna
  • 1/2 pound Swiss or Edam cheese

Method

Place bologna in a well buttered casserole dish and slash it crosswise in eight or nine places, at 2 inch intervals. Cut almost to bottom of ring, but not all the way through. Cut cheese into as many wedges as slashes in bologna, and fit cheese pieces into bologna slashes. Bake in a 375 degree oven about 15 minutes or until cheese has browned and meat is heated through. Serve hot.

 

Notes: Ring bologna is as popular in Finland as hot dogs are in the United States. Finns do not put the meat into bread as we do hot dogs. Serve this dish with scrambled eggs or boiled potatoes.
