Simmered Round Steak

Round steak is marinated in a mixture of ketchup, onion soup, vinegar, oil, sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce and carrots.
 

Ingredients

  • 1-3 lb. top or bottom round steak, fat and bone removed
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 envelope onion soup mix
  • 1/4 cup vinegar (white or apple cider)
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 Tbsp mustard
  • 2-4 Tbsp Worcestershire
  • 2 sliced carrots

Method

Cut and trim round steak into strips. Combine all ingredients except carrots in large glass dish or gallon-size Ziplock baggie. Marinate meat for 4-6 hours or overnight. Toss all into a large, heated skillet. Add carrots. Cover and simmer on low for 2 hours. Serve over rice or noodles.

 

Notes: Can be prepared a day ahead as meat must marinate at least 6 hours.
