Spicy Burgers

The ground beef and cayenne pepper mixture hides a filling of onion, green pepper and jack cheese inside. As the patties are grilled they are topped with sour cream, salsa, and cheddar cheese, then placed inside a bun.

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped green pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • Jalepeno pepper slices (optional)
  • Sour cream
  • Salsa
  • Thin slices cheddar cheese
  • Hamburger buns, split and toasted

Method

Mix first 3 ingredients together and form into 12, 4" patties. (Patties will be thin.) Mix next three ingredients together in a small bowl. (Add jalapenos at this point, if desired) Put 1/4 cup of mixture on six patties. Put remaining six patties on top of the prepared patties. Seal tightly at the edges. Grill 10 to 12 minutes on each side. On the second side, with about 2 minutes remaining, put about a tablespoon of sour cream, followed by about a tablespoon of salsa, and top with a slice of cheddar cheese. (It is important that the cheese slice completely covers the sour cream and salsa so that the toppings don't drip off of the burger.) Grill about 2 minutes more. Place in buns and enjoy.
