This is a gourmet hamburger if I have ever seen one. Topped with Gruyere cheese they can't be beat.
In medium skillet, saute the leeks in the canola oil until light golden brown. In large mixing bowl combine the leeks with the ground sirloin, honey, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and wine. Mix together but not too much.
Form into 4 -1/2 pound hamburger patties a little larger than your bun as they will shrink a bit. Grill on high heat the first side for 5 minutes. Turn heat down on grill to medium low and grill the second side for 4 minutes. Add some grated cheese to each steak and keep cooking 1 more minute, just until the cheese begins to melt. While the "Rough Steaks" are grilling, toast the hamburger buns face side down until light brown.
Mix together the mesquite steak sauce with the mayonnaise. Spread on buns and add the "Steaks in the Rough" topped with the cheese. Garnish with lettuce and tomato.
Notes:
Yep, it's really a hamburger but it tastes like a steak! If you are planning an informal outside barbeque with special guests, you can ask your butcher to ground beef tenderloin for you. He'll look at you funny but whichever beef you choose, your guests will always request your hamburgers!
