Method
In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together all marinade ingredients until blended well. Set aside 1/3 cup in refrigerator for spreading on bread. Trim excess fat on steak. Pat steak dry using paper towels, and place in a large resealable plastic bag. Pour remaining marinade over steak, turning once to coat steak, and refrigerate 2 hours. Wipe grill with vegetable oil and heat to medium high. Remove meat from marinade and discard marinade. Grill, covered, 6-10 minutes on each side, or until meat reaches desired temperature. Remove steak from grill, cover with foil, and let rest 5 minutes. Place bread halves, cut side down, on grill until golden brown. Meanwhile heat olive oil in a nonstick medium skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onion and salt, then saute until lightly brown. Remove from heat and season with salt and pepper to taste. Slice bread horizontally, cut out the middle of bread, leaving 1 inch on both top and bottom slices. Slice steak thinly across grain, then spread both halves of bread with reserved marinade. Place sliced steak on bottom part of bread, spoon onions on, then close sandwich. Cut into 4 equal pieces and serve.
